About the Role
The eThekwini Municipality is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Candidate Engineer to join its Water and Sanitation Engineering Department. This role offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience in applied engineering processes and provides room for growth and professional development. The successful candidate will assist in technical design, project management, and supporting water and sanitation infrastructure initiatives.

Job Purpose
The Candidate Engineer will support the Area Project Manager by applying technical engineering procedures to address internal and external project needs. This includes the development of design concepts, contract management, and technical analysis to ensure successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Support: Assist the Area/Works Project Manager to ensure services provided are technically correct, economically justifiable, and aligned with organizational policies.
  • Design Analysis: Support the analysis and design of water conveyance, sewer, and water storage systems, along with related infrastructure like buildings and structures.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with external organizations and stakeholders to ensure smooth project coordination and that the municipality’s interests are protected.
  • Contract Supervision: Oversee contracts to guarantee compliance, value for money, and adherence to safe working procedures.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Assist in preparing routing reports, correspondence, and cost estimates for submission to the Area Project Manager.
  • Compliance Checks: Review developer submissions to ensure they meet the department’s design criteria for water and sewer reticulations for proposed developments.

Reporting Line
Reports directly to the Area Project Manager.

Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science (NQF Level 8) in Civil Engineering.
  • Registration: Must be registered as a Candidate Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) within 3 months of employment.
  • Driver’s License: Possess a valid motor vehicle driving license.

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary and benefits package, which includes:
